Folks, let me just say that this sale was simply AWESOME. Our starter library just got a huge boost and I keep looking at my stash of books and grinning!

I’d never heard of the Big Bad Wolf Sale before but my sister went last year and suggested I go this time round. She warned me it would be crowded so after some pleading DaddyCool agreed to come with me during lunch on Friday. Not such a good idea. There was a queue to go in, which should have warned us but it only took 10 minutes so we stuck to it. Inside it was just mounds and stacks of books and a whole lot of people lugging around cardboard boxes with their stashes. We spent around and hour picking up books and then got into the queue to pay. If only I’d brought enough cash! The credit card lanes snaked this way and that and we ended up waiting for close to 2 hours! My feet were totally killing me by the end. We were both horribly late getting back to work but it was totally worth the effort. My final tally was 38 items for RM260. Only 5 are books for myself so Daphne’s bookshelf has gone from this:

To this:

Still some gaps to fill up of course but I’m still really happy. Some of the activity books have been stored away as well.
The best purchase we made would have to be a set of four Maisy lift the flap books. Just as we got in I saw a couple with a huge red luggage bag brimming over and these books were right on top. I very politely asked which area those books where at and the lady completely suprised me by saying I could have the whole set. They also let me look through their “reject” pile and pick whatever else I wanted. Now for the uninitiated, Maisy is a very popular mouse who goes on all sorts of adventures. I’ve looked out for the books at stores before and never bought any because they go for RM40 or so each. They only cost me RM5 at the sale. Score!

Another great find was made quite by accident. While DaddyCool was in the payment queue, I decided to continue wandering around and this set of Eric Carle number flashcards was just innocently waiting on top of a pile of books for teenagers. I don’t think I even blinked before grabbing them. They cost me RM8 and I just did a price check to find that the box retails for RM59.90. Whoa, double score!

Of course we also picked up the usual generic board books – things like farm animals, touch and feel, shapes and colours etc. There’s also two Bible stories books, some activity books and a few gems with lovely illustrations like Orange Pear Apple Bear.

I was tempted to go back again the second day but I think I’ll just wait it out till the next sale. When it comes around I’ll take the day off and head there bright and early. It’s a bit stressful if you’re rushing because you really can’t control the amount of time you spend queuing. I’d also bring along a trolley cart (or luggage bag!) because lugging a cardboard box around is really tough on the arms. The Big Bad Wolf is now on my list of sales not to be missed!
